If I need a full spectrum light, is it dangerous for humans?! I know that UV lights can cause a lot of damage to our eyes. Does a full spectrum light automatically contain UV's? Do plants need UV lights to grow or does it only help them a little?NatedavB0175A1 wrote: If the great outdoors is not an option, then definitely use a full spectrum indoor lighting setup. Wattage is truly not important, luminosity is. There is, however, a correlation between the two. Higher wattage fixtures generally have a higher light output. Heat output will also be a concern unless you are using LED lamps. Outdoors if I remember correctly is somewhere between 75000-150000 lux. I've had some decent success with red/blue LED lamps placed 8-12" above my plants that had an output of 10000 lux. These were like 35-50 watt LED lamps. I suspect growth would be better under full spectrum lights with higher Wattage and increased light output. Metal halides and fluorescent lighting will have much higher Wattage usage and also increased great production. You will likely need more space for these and increased circulation to dissipate heat and prevent burning leaves and overheating this bonsai. I do not like personally like indoor setups as there are more issues with fungus, pests and etc. I sold all my tropical and cold intolerant bonsai last year and did not have to use an indoor setup. I love keeping my plants outdoors and bring them in for display only. But when space is limited you do what you need to do enjoy the art! Good luck with your bonsai!
