Got this as a gift and I dont know the tree type or what routine I should be taking but im trying my best to keep it alive. Friend doesnt know tree type either.

Hello and welcome.
First of all, this is not a bonsai but a young 2-3 year old juniper. Second, of you leave it where it is now it will die (probably already is dead). Contrary to what the label probably said, plants belong outside.( no such thing as an indoor plant...).
So, what to do: if temps in your part of the world are positive now place it outside ( maybe in steps : colder room, garden shed, then outside), get rid of the pebbles, water when soil feels dry. But again, it is probably too late...

This has been a juniper. It's dead.
