Did i kill my bonsai, Or can i revive it was created by plantlady29

Hello everyone. i've had my bonsai tree (Serissa Japionica Star of Thounsands ---Indoor) for almost a year now. My tree has sent me on a emotional roller coaster being not only a new bonsai tree owner but also reading how this plant can be quite fussy. All spring and summer my plant was beautiful. A time or three i may have slacked on the watering, but once back on track it was perfect. Fall came as the season change did (i'm on the east coast) and my tree began to turn yellow and leaves would fall off. I mean sometimes i would bump the stand it was on and the leaves would just fall off super easy. 3-5 leaves turned into half the tree, by december my tree was naked. Shame on me because my tree was overdue for a pot change and it was pretty evident, although the roots did appeared healthy.
I then bought a new pot as well as tools to repot my plant(which i know repotting may not be recommended in the winter) but i just wanted my tree happy again at least by the spring. By January i could see some growth, but noticed that leaves would still turn yellow, or even dry up and turn black. In February i purchased a fertilizer and vitamin combo from a 名媛直播 tree site. I removed all the leaves from the tree that were still turning yellow and did the vitamin and fertilizer combo as recommend on the bottle.
Here we are in march and my tree is still naked. I then got curious and examined the roots of my tree. The outer layer that protects the root is easy to peel, and once root is expose they appear greyish-black . Im beyond concerned because i don't want to lose my tree and i fear i killed it. Can i revive it? is it dormant? If it isn't too late for my tree what should i do?
Thank You,

That's a very dead plant. It's been dead for weeks. You cannot revive a dead tree.
Serissa is a (semi) evergreen. It should not have lost leaves, not even in fall.
As you've been doing reading on the subject, you may be aware that this is not a bonsai.

Unfortunately yes, it seems you have managed to kill it.
I tell you why; they hate being moved around, they need good air circulation they can't stay more than a couple of days without watering, they hate having its roots wet all the time they don't take more than one insult per season.
Don't repot a sick tree. Don't fertilize a sick tree. Don't bareroot a sick tree.
Here is one of my Serissas, today:

Yes, you are right.
End of the summer here, raining every day for weeks, temps around 32°C., and I didn't prune it since the end of the spring.
So they put up a show this week.
No wonder they are called "tree of a thousand stars".
