Planting/Climate? was created by Loestus

Hello!
I've never kept bonsai or really grown anything, but really wanted to start! Rather than purchase an already started tree I decided I'd like to try planting and growing first. I just recently bought some juniper seeds that I would like to try to grow and keep (not sure of the exact species, here is the product page where I purchased them from: ) and I was wondering when a good time to plant would be?

I live in Lexington, KY, where the weather has been moving rapidly between ~60 F (~15 C) to ~3 F (-16 C). I was wondering if it would be best to start it indoors where we usually keep the house at ~65-72 F (18-22 C) in a little pot, or just outdoors with plenty of sunlight. Any and all advice would be much appreciated! I'm also sorry if this isn't the correct place to put this in the forum, please let me know if I should move this thread to somewhere else!

Why start with the hardest way to grow something if you never practiced growing anything?
Sorry, this just won't work.

FYI: You don't grow a bonsai from seed. You grow a bonsai by training a tree. First, you need to learn how to grow that tree, and, as you have no experience with that at all, starting with bonsai makes no sense whatsoever.

The picture in that link is pure nonsense. That's not how it works. 名媛直播 seed does NOT exist. Growing a tree like that takes you 30 years.. At least.

I'm aware that there are no 'bonsai seeds' and that you train and care for the tree. I suppose I went about the question wrong and wasn't as organized as I should have been before posing any questions. The reason I linked the product was mainly to help identify the species if possible so I could look further into the proper care and growing requirements for the species.
I figured that starting with trying to grow and keep a bonsai would be a very difficult way to go about it, but decided I'd try to give it a shot if it's feasible at all. I know that it takes years and years to get a good looking tree. I thought it would be cool to have a tree years from now that would be a tree I started right when I started growing things.
If keeping bonsai is a goal of mine, are there any particular steps or paths that you might recommend in particular to take to practice? I've got the seeds already, I plan on planting and trying to grow one anyway, but are there any particular plants, trees or otherwise, that you could recommend to someone who's starting?

Look at things like scarification and stratification. These are actions needed to make seeds of sme species germinate.
Juniper seeds are notoriously slow germinators, and you may see the first plants pop up with weeks, yet the last may take years to germinate. So start with reading up on germinating juniper seeds.

While these are germinating -I am a fan of doing it just outside. Prepare the seeds, plant them, put them outside, see them when the snow and cold move away- consider getting a juniper from a garden centre. Just any old shrub will do. Then practice wiring. Caring for it. Next year, practice repotting. A youtube video or website can only show you how it works. But doing it yourself is a fully differnt thing. And unfortunately, if you do things rong in many cases you can loose the branch or even whole plant.

So in 2 years you have some more experience. That is the point where your juniper seedlings might be big enough to start thinking about the first bonsai interventions. And at least then you know where some of the risks are.
