Hello -
I am receiving a Chinese Elm today. It has been grown in a greenhouse in Southern California for the first 5 years of its life thus far. I live in North Carolina, and we are just getting in to our "cold" part of Winter. I am expecting nights around 20-40 Fahrenheit to be regular until March. My question is, upon receiving my tree, should I immediately put it outside full time, or should there be an acclimation period of sorts for it to get used to the colder weather? What would you do? Thanks so much.

I would not bring it outside. Keep it in a cool room till spring. The tree does not have time to prepare for winter, considering it is winter already, and we are on our way to spring (7 weeks to go, yay!)

Thats pretty much how i was leaning too. I found a sunny window in our new home that i'll put it in front of. Could i put it outside for more sunshine on nicer/warmer days? or would it be best to leave it inside full time until the last frost comes?

plant hate change. SO move it around as little as possible. Just take a week or 2 as time for a plant to get used to a new environment for small changes..
