Hi! I got this cutie at WALMART of all places. He has done surprisingly well. I have had him since March so this is my first winter. He was really flourishing and then started losing leaves when it got colder around September (I live in the North East U.S). He has lost atleast half his leaves, however the rest look shiny and healthy. I thought maybe he was getting to bushy and didnt have enough nutrients to reach all the branches so I pruned some but it didnt seem to help. I am trying to figure out what kind he is to help solve the issue. I think hes a type of Fig but not sure, help finding that out?
I water him about 2-3 times a week. The soil seems to retain a decent amount of water. He is three feet from a window which I keep open so he gets light.
I'm assuming the leaves are dying due to the temp. I keep the heat in my apartment at 70 but it's not really 70, it's probably closer to 60. Should I get an LED light or something?
Help!! I dont want him to die!! Hes so cute!!

Unfortunately both of us are in the same predicament. That is actually not a bonsai but a ficus ginseng mallsai (it’s ok though I had mine for over a year and I learned this an hour ago). As far as leaves dropping, mine usually drops a few leaves with the temperature change but never more than a quarter of them. Are the leaves turning yellow or spotted? Or are the brown and dead? If it’s the first one then it’s likely a nutritional issue and you’d need to add some fertilizer. If it’s the second one it’s likely a watering issue. You might need to water or mist more frequently. I hope this helps

Omg..I read your post right after I posted mine and was thinking we were in the same boat. What a bummer, but they're still cute so who cares.
The leaves turn a lighter kind of lime green and look weak compared to the rest that are a really deep green. They aren't yellow, though. They come off with the lightest little tug. For a while there there were probably about 5-6 leaves every few days that were just coming off. I guess it is probably a nutritional issue, then. Unfortunately this little guy is glued to his pot so I don't think his roots will survive a re-potting and fertilizer.

remove the glued down stones. They prevent proper watering & air circulationg in the pot.
Keeping any plant at 60 degrees is enough to crisp them. For ficus, acceptable ranges are from 15-35 degrees.

Thanks, I will be removing the stones. Also, I think you are using Celsius, I was using Fahrenheit
So, 60-70F is 15-21C

So try to be specific. This is an international forum. The international standard for day to day temperature is celcius.
