Plants have fairly simple genomes, and that means they are fairly inflexible about their environment. A tree from Hong Kong won't be able to stand freezing or even 10 degrees above. A tree from Canada won't survive if it never gets below freezing. They all really require lots of sunshine and fresh air. They all have watering requirements and are pretty inflexible.
In short, your seedlings require a usual tree environment, which means they really want to be outside, and they really want to get cold. A pet dog probably wants to come inside in the cold and wet. A pine tree is not a pet dog.
