Lack of leaves and dropping leaves was created by JC34

Hello,
I have had my bonsai for a year now and I can never seem to get it 'comfortable' as it seems to produce new leaves and very soon after lose them.

Recently the growth has been minimal with only a couple of shoots being produced. I only water when the soil appears dry and is currently placed by a window.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Your Chinese Elm belongs outside. It will always struggle if you keep it inside. Lack of light and humidity takes it's toll as you can see

Thank you for your message. Given the time of year would it be advisable to place the bonsai in a green house? And will this meet the temperature needs of the plant? I am located in the U.K.

Depends on where you are, this species is hardy. If you have a greenhouse then it would be better than in the house. Don;t let it get completely dry, it may lose leaves when cold or may not. Mine usually holds leaves all winter
