Blue Wisteria stem growing in a loop

In mid August I planted this blue Wisteria and it has been growing fast. I had to remove several branches to keep it from tipping over. My concern is that the stem is now growing downwards instead of up. Should I leave it as or cut it?
Note: This tree is fully dependent on plant lighting and is exposed to it 24/7.

My experience with wisteria is that training it is sort of like herding cats. Anything else will get the message about direction of growth sort of quickly, but wisteria just pops out in random directions, knowing that you won't toss it out since it has great flowers.

Yeah it does grow pretty randomly.
The stem started to uncoil itself in the last few hours and is rising upward. I think removing the potential shoots was a push in the right direction.

Why did you remove branches? Branches are what you need to gett it to grow thicker. Wisteria is not goor at growing side-branches. So getting rid of them is a shame. Now you only have the main stem left. Such a shame.
I do not see it growing down.
Keep in mind that all plants need day/night, as well as dormant times.

Posted 6 years 2 months ago #45372Probably shouldn't have said branches. I was referring to offshoots from the main stem. I removed them because they were growing over one another and causing the stem to lean due to the heavy load. One shoot was laid almost perfectly over another shoot. I think it was due to the way I was rotating the pot throughout the day.leatherback wrote: Why did you remove branches? Branches are what you need to gett it to grow thicker. Could this crazy growth be due to keeping it in the light at all times?
