Hi Team.
Brand new sprouter here.
Ive been a bonsai enthusiast for many years tho.
Recently, I went to Thailand for a 2 month holiday, left my 18yo celtis africana (white stinkwood) in what I thought were capable hands of a friend.
I checked all of the conditions at my friends place, which was almost exactly the same as how it was at my place but still she managed to kill most of it.
Spring started a month ago here in South Africa. I've had it for 5 years and structured many branches, that I just had to cut...
Anyone ever go through something like this with their bonsai?
About design- I'm open to any ideas and bonsai forms.
Thanks

(sh) it happens. I loose a tree every single time I leave for a bit. Guess it is acccepting or never leave home.
As for your tree, I would use the opportunity, and trim the stubs a lot shorter, to get better taper in your branches.

After several experiences like yours I finally found a dependable waterer. He graduates in a year and I don't know what I will do.
My first idea is to make a group of house sitters at the local bonsai group and have us do and return favors. That would have the additional benefit that we could tell each other about spraying for mold, etc.
So, join a club locally and see if that helps.
