Good afternoon,

Okay, so i'm extremely new to this and with only basic knowledge of care of bonsai trees, I impulsively bought 2 bonsai trees from a giant hardware store chain (i've been doing alot of research since and am highly immersed in all the information now tho).

During my visit I noticed a few baby bonsais dying in there punnets without any soil almost dead, so with a couple of my larger plants I was purchasing, i decided to.. ya know pinch them and hide them inside the bigger ones  (don't judge me, they didn't look like something anyone would buy being on the verge of death). Since then, I've moved them into separate punnets and then into a larger pot together (I figured cause they are the same it couldn't hurt). But now I've got two of the same species who were stolen together, and only one has been recovering - recovering very well, whilst the other looks to be getting worse.

So I googled a few things today, but everything I'm reading seems to be specific to larger trees or other species, but I tried a few things, heres what I did:

1. Pulled the ficus out of the pot and cleaned off the soil (just incase there was old dirt lingering).

2. Submerged ficus in water because I'm a sheep and do what youtube tells me. Not sure if this actually helps but, a watered plant is better than a dead one.
Then I put it back in the pot in it's fresh soil

3. Cut off the dried up leaves, this part confused me because some of the leaves still have moisture, should i cut them off too or leave them even tho they are withering?

4. Added a wire to help it lean on and stand instead of collapsing (not for training or anything)

Now what I didn't do was prune the roots as they looked comparable to the roots of the healthy ficus, and because it's so small I have no idea if making them even smaller will help it survive, but if I'm wrong please correct me on this.

Any advice on this would be great, I've uploaded a picture of the siblings. The healthy one looks healthy and the dying one looks like it's dying. Lol

There are no baby bonsai (not "bonsais"). What you have are not bonsai, but ficus cuttings - that can be grown to become bonsai in the (far) future.
You do not need bonsai growing tips at this point, you are simply growing ficus and you need to treat them as such. Once they are big and strong, you can start thinking about the next steps.

The healthy one looks OK. The dying one does not look like it is dying, it looks dead.

Welcome to the empire.

And no. I am not not going to judge you. It is NOT up to you to decide they will not sell it. Ask whether you can take them. And if not, you leave them behind. Do not go stealing stuff because you want it.

The one with the dark leaves is dead. Toss it.
Do not trim any roots. This pant has a lot of growing to do before it gets to be called a bonsai. Now it is just a your cutting.
