It happens he collected these junipers seeds when travelling, and is not sure which juniper is this.
The little plant is 8 months old and is planted in a relatively good drainable soil; it feels soft to the touch, not prickly like horizontalis, and has foliage low down on the trunk, thanks to him cutting the taproot when it was sprouting.
Any hints as the species?
BY THE WAY, he says it's a juniper, but I am not quite so sure...

Yes, this is really a problem when one has to identify young junipers.Auk wrote: There are so many species and varieties...
Thanks Auk, I'll take a look (Rocky Mountain Juniper, right?)Auk wrote: I will not pretend I know but a wild guess: juniperus scopulorum
We have a range of mountains two hours west of S?o Paulo , 2.000m high; the microclimate over there is cold and european like. So one can find all sorts of conifers thriving there, and some nurseries sell a lot of pines and junipers for the properties around.Auk wrote: Where was it collected?

Yes, but I changed my mind. I think it is a Juniperus Virginiana
So one can find all sorts of conifers thriving there, and some nurseries sell a lot of pines and junipers for the properties around.
That doesn't help

As this now is the beginning of the growing season here, let's see in six months how it develops.
