About fifty feet from the bonsais is real forest, with squirrels, chipmunks, racoons, and plenty of stuff I haven't seen. Also, copperheads, rattlesnakes, etc. With all that squirrel habitat there isn't much hope of distracting them. I took a jar of cayenne pepper from the spice section of the grocery store and emptied it on several trees, with no result.

The wire mesh works and it doesn't wear out or wash away. If it matters how it looks, the mesh comes right out and goes back in. That's my solution and I'm sticking with it.

Aw man... I’m jealous. Agkistrodons are good against those little buggers, but really sht happens if someone from the family got tagged. What kind of rattle you have around? In your area, have roundups?

That's my solution and I'm sticking with it.

Sure! As me to mine, even I don’t need it currently. Why is good to discuss different practices on the forum? You’ll never know what’ll learn who’s reading it. I won’t post a spray bottle, but for your method, maybe it can be useful for some users, if you open a topic with photos. I try to avoid any “just my method works nothing else” subject, so I hope I didn’t misunderstood you, and you won’t be “that” guy.

I think the best thing for chipmunks, etc., is a cat, or maybe lots of cats. That is not practical if you have birds, even indoors. But, anything that works works. The screen works for me, and I like it being non-chemical and easily removed. YMMV.

We don't see many snakes. I kill a copperhead every year or so. The lady next door took her dogs out back in April, heard a noise, looked down, and saw a rattle sticking out from under her shoe. Technology is wonderful. She had her cell phone in her hand and called her husband to bring the shovel. But, they are out there, along with the mice and chipmunks which make up most of their diet.

I keep those buggers on terrariums and I’m against roundups (killing for fun),but... If it’s a question of the life (or losing body parts) of someone, kill is the only choice what we have. I know, not everyone have knowledge, or equipment to gently remove the snake and bring back to somewhere where no people could harmed. It’s an own profession. Crotals I’ve found less aggressive than any Agkistrodon, but I imagine they overnumber the copperheads in your area too.
