Over Watering, Infections, General Tips! was created by M83

Hi everyone, I am new to the world of 名媛直播. About a month ago I purchased a 名媛直播 seed set off amazon, and planted the Scots Pine and Dawn Redwood seeds. After about 2 weeks the Scots Pine were big enough to be transferred into their own pots to grow. (Only the last couple of days the Dawn Redwood have started to sprout so they are still in their bags!). I have been watering the Scots Pine whenever the soil is dry, which is every day or so, however i've noticed a couple issues. The bottom of the stem is turning a funny brown colour, is that normal? Also some of the pots they are in look like they are infected/disease riddled, unsure if I should re-pot them into into plastic pots? Advice on both those problems would be greatly appreciated! Secondly, any other advice for feeding, watering, re-potting, trimming etc I might need to know? Thank you very much in advance :), Archie.

Hi and welcome!
Congrats for the successful planting of the seeds, seedlings look great.
The browning of the stem means they are beginning to harden, and this is normal.
I don't like the look of the fungus/mould on the exterior of your organic pots, but at the same time it is too early to repot the seedlings again.
Tough one.
But yes, plastic or terracota pots, in this case, are better.

Hiya Clicio!
Thank you! I originally had 6 from the bag but unfortunately one died, I feel as though 5 is good though!
Ah thats great news, was worried the bases were dying.
How long should I leave it before re-potting them?
Once the Dawn Redwood are ready to leave the bag, I shall put them in a plastic pot, however the plastic pot is about 1.5x bigger than the Organic pot, would that be a problem?

Thank you!
Archie

You are new to the world of growing trees. It will take long before you can start practicing bonsai techniques on your seedlings.

There is no such thing as bonsai seed.

I am relatively new as well and I agree with the feedback from other posters. It will be a WHILE till you can really do anything with the seed babies. I asked someone once "what is the best advise you could give to a beginner" his answer was "start with a LOT of trees. Trees of all sizes and varieties so that you can really experiment. However, research first what species survive the best in you're climate and go from there". I obtained 9 trees of all types and sizes and it's really exciting learning all about them!:woohoo: There are some great bonsai outlets on the internet if you research the ones that are reputable.
