Hello,
A few months ago I posted that my Chinese elm was dead. Now new growth has started but not on any existing branches directly from the main trunk. Not sure what to do with it now in terms of pruning or shaping it. The entire top portion still looks dead with no new growth. Any help or advice as to what I do next would be appreciated.
Thanks.

You could just let it grow for a while. you could also carefully cut back from the top bit by bit, to try and determine how far back there is life... as thread grafting might be an option to bring more growth towards the top, and a living trunk portion is needed for that.
how far up the trunk is there growth? it is a bit difficult to tell from the pictures.

Trunk is dried. You probably gone too hard on cutting the roots or tree just avoided death. Now its trying to grow new sun collectors from the base where it is still alive.
