A friend bought me a salix, for bonsai material. However, it has been badly grafted onto a tall trunk, so I'm going to need a miracle to make it look anything like a bonsai. I've thought about 1. taking a cutting and rooting it 2. taking several branches off and grafting these further down the trunk 3. removing the whole grafting and trying to root that or 4. as I saw in a video: making several cuts into the trunk in order to bend and repot at an angle, to make a semi cascade... any help and ideas would be appreciated. thanks!

Look up air layering.
However, salix is not th best species for bonsai.

thanks, will do.
I've realised that now. I might just keep it as a standard tree, if all else fails. Thanks for the reply.
