I had one, which never really was happy. Hardly any growth. Then one winter it froze to death. Looking at them, I find them fairly pricey here, and as I am not sure what went wrong, I do not want to get another. Then I realized there are species perfectly fit for my climate. So why go Japanese..

Exactly! In this world, practically monopolized by everything done, written or used in Japan, sometimes people don?t realize that for our current conditions everything that comes from there is not necessarily the best or the adequate thing to do.
