Hello! I have a chinese elm that is around 15 years old. It has always been in good health. About a month ago all the leaves fell off (which has happend before in its annual cycle) however this time no new buds started to grow. The tree became very brittle and aone of the smaller branches dried out completely. I thought it may have been overwatered. I have let the soil dry out and started to give it a kittle water every few days when the soil is almost dry. Today i noticed aime new growth on the main trunk bit nothing on the rest of the tree.
Does this mean the tree is still alive and should i be doing anything at this time to the upper branches like trimming ir removing completetly. I am a beginner and any help or advice to try bring my tree back to life would be much appreciated.
Thank you

Personally, I am a big fan of leaving plants alone that are struggling. That includes trimming off anything at all. You can never be fully certain which parts are still alive. So just care for it as you have been. Think why in the last 15 years you never had trouble and now you do (Have you recentely repotted? Does it need repotting, did you move it to a different position etc). And just wait for it to recover. Then trim to what is alive and decide upon the future paths.

Thank you for the reply. I have not moved it recently into a different locarion. I have never repotted the plant (dont really know how, but i am sure i can find something online)
Maybe repotting is needed?
I agree with you not trimming, becaue i dont want to damage it any more.
I will poat an update in a few weeks.
Thanks.

i also noticed in one picture, you might want to do something as what looks like a spider might issue. i noticed a good amount of webs on at least half the tree if im not mistaking.
