I have a volunteer red oak that I have been watching for 3 years ,It is now about 18 to 24 inches tall. It has grown from an acorn in the ground , it needs to be removed since it is next to my patio and as it grows will damage the slab. The characteristics of the seedling is one long straight truck with leaves starting to sprout out of the trunk.
My questions
1 Is it possible to select the tree as a bonsai attempt? Is the trunk too long?
2 Should I place it in a training box once I have moved it from the ground?

A photograph would greatly help on the assessment. Maybe post one later? That way we could be of much more help.
