My Chinese elm has started to show some yellow and dead leaves. The shoots are still growing however not as fast as they one when we’re. I water it every day to keep it damp but not wet. Just wanting to know if it is still healthy or not?

Watering every day is clear path to slow death. Stop. Water just after soil gets dry, but dont wait, once you see dry then water with no delay. It can be once every several days, couls be once a week, there is no schedule for watering. Just keep an eye on soil every day and wait for it to get dry before water qgain. Now leave it alone and make sure soil dries well before next watering. Good luck.

The problem is that the soil seems very dry every day. Do I still just not water it?

Is the tree above a heater? that might have something to do with it, if the heater is on.

How you decide if it is dry or not? This type of soil you have is generic high water retention soil. Even in the hot summer days it will stay wet for at least 2-3 days.
