Both the Pinus and the Juniper are nice, but leggy,.. As both are tall, I would try to make them thicker, unless you go for a literatti style.

Also with the shipaku juniper the nebari is hard to tell what's alive and what's dead, I would like to make a Shari but don't want to kill the tree, some one told me I need to find the live vain, how would I do that? Do I take the bark off and look for dead wood on the tree? Any help would be amazing.

On young plants like this, you probably have only living tissue. If not, you should see ridges in the bark; Sections that are higher or lower. The fatter a part is, the more likely it is that this is actively growing. The lower parts are more likelt to be less important.

Normally, if you start from a stump of an old branch, you can follow the bark starting at that stum down. This typically is now less important for the tree.

The tree itself is about 13 years old and has been thru some stuff befor I got it, it has some dead branches on it and the roots on top some are dead because there no longer going into the ground.
