It depends.
To make the plant grow and thicken, a colander, pond basket or a large training pot (not as good as the colander).
Or it can go to the ground.
To keep the plant inside or to show it, a good bonsai pot with at least two draining holes.

Sorry, but to me this advise makes no sense. You are giving bonsai growing tips for someone who is not growing a bonsai.

The pot should do fine, regular potting soil will do fine. Make sure it gets enough light, proper watering, and don't move it around.

Reece: I advise you to look for a houseplant forum, there should be forums that discuss Ficus. You will get better advise there as these people have experience with plants like this.

Yes, I see your point.
But...
名媛直播 info can make the OP see that even if his plant is not a bonsai, at least he is learning some bonsai tips.

Sorry, Auk, I guess you dont know what this pot actually is. I have same one but smaller and black which used for Ginseng Microcarpa. You think this pot is two parts and bottom is tray but its actually not. Its a whole piece, undetachable. There are some holes on the bottom but then there is no room whatsoever for water to drain out. It is some terrible invention by Ikea designers that is beautiful but practically useless for trees. And yes, I got the Ficus close to death in that pot due to low air circulation and water retained and soaking the soil, then I re pot in proper pot and now tree is back to life and growing.

I have my plants in pots without a hole. People who have indoor plants take care of these plants in a very different way than bonsai growers.
With Akadama or another fast-draining substrate comes a strict watering and feeding regime. For my houseplants, not so much. I can leave them alone when I go on a holiday and not worry too much as the soil won't dry out quickly. I don't have to fertilize as often. Actually, I don't even fertilize, I just repot 'm occasionally.

Yeah, a proper draining soil and a pot with a drainage hole would benefit houseplants too, but who wants water stains on their furniture?

Nope, I suppose not. Staining the furniture or the floor is a luxury I wouldn?t afford either.
