chinese elm lost all leaves was created by nukadne

hello,
I’ve been having my chinese elm for two years.
1 month ago it lost all of his leaves, they became dry and brown. I tried to fertilise.l, water it as always, but the leaves didn’t show back. new buds started sprouting, but now they went dry as well.
I repotted the tree, watered it as usual. I cut a bit the trunk, to see if it’s still alive, it is almost whiteish sand color.
Am I doing this rightor it is too late? Is my tree dead?

Yeah... It is gone.

Usually if the new flush does not develop, it is end of story.

Is it indoors?
Did you move it around?
Seems dead, but with Elms you never know.
Wait a couple of weeks and water properly.

it is inside. and the trunk in the middle is green, I watched some video’s, so it should be alive still I guess. I repotted it and keeping it in a shade. Am I doing this right? should I water it as usual? the roots as well seems strong, no smell at all

one thing i have learned from reading lots of articles on this forum and a lot of people falling into the same trap. is avoid re-potting a tree when its unhealthy/ unhappy. it adds stress to the tree from the repot. im not saying this may be the case but in the future id stay away from that. ive made the same mistake with unhealthy trees, first thought is, oh its dying let me trim, chop, repot. but thats all stress the tree doesn't need at that moment. which resulted in my trees dying (again not saying thing will be the case with yours).

Crent89 is right.
Avoid messing with an unhealthy tree.
Water it, give it plenty of light and fresh air, no fertilizers, and....
Wait.

Yes, it is dead or at least it?s about to be. Sorry, but this tree is a gonner. Just, do not give up if you are really interested in this art/hobby. Next time do your research and do not make the same mistakes. Keep it up!
