Hello!
First, thank you for your guidance. I had an orange tree bonsai long ago that I had cared for for several years, but it was devastated by spider mites and I lost that battle. A good 10 years later, I'm willing to try again!
I found a young Japanese Maple, and want to be careful so as to not fry its leaves; they seem so delicate!
I've got it placed near against a south-facing window that has UV-film installed. Seem like a sound place to put it? Or would it be better to pull it far from the window so that it only gets refracted or filtered light?
Thank you for your guidance!
Alex

Welcome!
You can put it as close to the window as possible.
But...
Outside is better.

where are you located. i live in southern california where its not ideal for a Japanese red maple because we do get over 100*F (37*c) temperatures and my JRM does fine outside under a patio cover where it only get about 4-6 hours of morning sun. i would highly recommend Placing your young tree outside as JRM are very prone to fungus disease.

Hi Alex. This tree is not indoors and will die eventually. Take it out of this pot and put in big container and take outside. Wait some years to grow before you can work on it. In the meantime research and learn and get suitable material to train with. Good luck.
