Any Tips? When to Start Wiring? was created by PrinceH4H4T4

Hello everyone!

I'm new here and new to bonsais and have never grown one before. My roommate bought a kit with some seeds and some dirt and pots and such. So I took some because i was interested. I have done some research on basic care of the type of tree I have and of bonsais in general. I know that a bonsai can be any type of tree and it takes a while before you can turn your sapling into a real bonsai. But what i cant find is good information on the specific type fo tree i'm growing, because I know you need to start wiring the tree at different times for different trees. I have two, 2 month old Jacaranda Mismofolias, one much larger than the other. So does anyone have any advice for me about bonsais, or my specific tree in general? Thank you in advance for the help, it is much appreciated. I have attached a picture below with a size gauge.

I am just curious. After all you read about trees, bonsai, techniques, care, repotting, wiring, etc. when you think you should start wiring?

You are going to start wiring it in a few years.
Let's say for a Jacarandá, 5 to 7 years.

Well from what I had seen around I assumed 2-3 years, but as Clicio has mentioned, for the type of tree i have 5-7 years.

Jacaranda is a native Brazilian tree. Very beautiful wood, takes a long time to mature.
You can start by keeping it alive for the first two years; plant it on the ground or in a colander after the first year.
After that, fertilize and clip as needed.
Then, after 3/4 years, prune it. Define the main branches and the style you want to follow.
Wait for the tree to respond by throwing lots of new growth.
Clip as needed.
THEN you can start to wire it.

Thank you! Sorry for all the questions, like i said this is my first time and clearly i haven't been able to learn very much from the internet. I do have a problem with planting this tree outside, because i live in an area with pretty cold winters and lots of snow. Im sure id be able to plant it for the summer months outdoors but I don't know how well it wold respond to the environment I live in. What should i do about this?

Thank you again

If you are realy interested in the art then i would say join a bonsai club buy a lot of books and get better material to work with. Get permission and go into the woods and collect trees. The more trees you have the more you will kill and the more you will learn
