Isentifying my bonsai

Hello,
i ve have been searching to try and find out what bonsai tree i have, as it was given to me as a present. It has created mould on the soil and the leaves have hardened and are falling off. And i am scared it is dying... please can you help me identify my bonsai so i can find out what i did wrong and find out how to care for it please.

Exactly. And this is the 'Fungicus' variety to be more precise

All I could see was wet soil. If there was a tree there it is dead now.

I can't see it very well, but it looks more like a sagretia theezans. Might be wrong, though. Can't really identify if the leaves look like this and the tree isn't shown.
Don't know if you guys meant ulmus parvifolia, instead of chinensis, but ulmus parvifolia has a lot smaller leaves and no smooth edges.
Don't pin me on it, though. Not an expert in sagretia and bonsai and still have a lot to learn

Is it only me not able to see any tree on that pic there? Looking at the mould I bet on heavy watering, poor light levels and not quality airing.
