Based on information from the leaflet that IKEA attaches to the three when sold, the three is a Ficus Microcarpa Ginseng. After reading information on this site, I understand this means it has been grafted with leaves from another species of tree. So what kind of tree do I have??? Can you just graft and create another subspecies?

Also, when searching the internet to find out what this tree looks like au natural/IRL, I just get pictures of other Ficus Microcarpa Ginseng bonsai trees, not he ones IRL, so how can I then know how to prune it? As I understand, bonsai is all about making a tree that looks like a miniature version of the tree IRL. Am I correct? Or mistaken?

Could you please post a picture of your tree so we can help you with more information?
I guess some people here can be much more helpful than the leaflet from IKEA.

You are correct and it seems you already figured this out yourself: Ikea does not sell bonsai.

Mallsai instead of bonsai. Brilliant! It might still be a fun learning project though.

I am afraid that UNLESS you live in the tropics, this will not be the ebst of ideas. Enjoy is as it is. And look around a bit on websites to learn what you need to start growing bonsai.

Nope. People with much better skills than me have done it, but I find the result mediocre. For a beginner it is unfeasible. You can trim shoots that get too long to maintain it's shape but that is about it.

I do expect it does not concern a ficus like on lb's picture but the one with the fat roots.
