I live in Toronto, Canada. These past weeks were quite harsh: -20 degrees Celcius for over a month. I placed my 3 trees pots into bigger pots to protect the roots, around 20 cm on each side. They are protected from wind on all sides, but still have light and sun during the day.
Recently the temperatures went back up, I thought it's a good opportunity to water the trees, while it's not too cold - I watered them last about a month ago.
When I tried to check the soil, I realized it was frozen (at least on the top for sure).
Now temperatures are going back up, it's going to be +7 degrees Celcius this Thursday, but will go back to around -9 next week. I'm really afraid my trees will come out of dormancy or that they won't get enough water as I couldn't water them during very cold days.
Do you think my trees are still ok? Should I water them now that temperatures are much higher? What if the whole winter temperatures are going to be freezingly cold - do I still water my trees every month?
Thank you in advance,
Daria
