Hello,
I got my first bonsai as a gift. I've never owned one and I really don't know how to take care of it. First of all, I have no idea what kind it is. Where should I put it? I live in an apartment with an open balcony and it gets really cold, especially at this time of the year, so I don't think it's a proper place to put it. How many times I have to water it and should I put it in a different pot? How much sun does it need? Anything you can tell me about it, I would be very grateful.
Thank you.

The first thing to do is find out which plant species you have. It is not a species commonly ued for bonsai, so I do not know whethe ryou can actually create a bonsai out of this.
I would ask your friend who gave you the bonsaiset, and ask where to get this information.
It looks like a variegated boxwood, but I am not sure. Putting a boxwood outdoors will kill it. But if you have a tropical species, putting it outside in winter will kill it.
Catch-22 really.
After you do that, read up on what bonsai are.

It looks a little like a variation of coprosma x kirkii to me.. but it also could be a boxwood.. have a look around online and do some comparing with different species.
