I was given the gift of a beautiful ficus bonsai tree about 8 months ago. It was doing beautifully until this weekend. I had the plant in my office I watered on a regular basis and the tree was putting out new growth and leaves. I was out of the office on Friday and over the weekend. I watered it well before I left on Thursday and left water in the tray under the plant. When I returned on monday, all the leaves on the tree were dried up, and the soil was extremely dry. Someone had entered my office and the heat was turned up. When I arrived on Monday the temp in the room was around 100 degrees. I have cut all of the dead leaves off the plant and currently have just the truck and small branches. PLEASE tell me there is hope for this tree. I love it and want to do what I can to bring it back. I have it sitting in a tray with water and I am keeping the soil moist. any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Join the club. This forum is being flooded again with dead or dying "bonsai".
Probably a "Ginseng" which is often not really considered a bonsai.
Bad climate for bonsai, especially when:
100 degrees! That's the temperature water boils! Can't be good.
If it completely dried out, roots may have dried out as well - specifically the finer hair roots. If that happened, recovery is unlikely.
A picture would help though.
Don't do that. If the roots are affected, this will cause root rot.
