A picture of your bonsai may help.

It has not grown a second trunk, it is just another growth. It is a very poor condition, not enough light incorrect watering or a combination.

Thanks I am a little bemused as was doing so well. I may have watered too much can I save it? When they are in a house over winter how much water do they need? I was watering daily over the summer with a little rain water. However since I brought inside is that too much?

You have to water when the plant needs it not ot a schedule. Check thle soil everry day and water when almost dry. "a little water" is not the right way. you must water thoroughly, not a little that will not penetrate the soil.
It cannot be doing well or it would not have died back as it has. You need to look at where it is placed as it is not getting anywhere near enough light.
