Hello im a serial pine killer.
Trying not to be.

I have 2 pines on their second year.
Right now iys fall and colder than normal.

Meaning it already feels like early winter here but we still have 1 month till winter.

Im wondering if anyone knows hows often i should get candle growth.
I got 1 in spring 2016 it was a baby 12mnths nursey stock. The other i picked up this year as nursery stock it is bigger than the first.

In 2016 i got 1 growth of candles in april may.

Then i do not recall getting candles swell up large till the following spring. Sure there were tiny buds but they stayed like that all winter.

This year though on both trees the candles have really swollen up.

It really looks as if I am about to get growth on the tree.

My understanding is this is not good because winter will damage them and stunt growth or even lead to the trees death.

I have a tiny bit of bio gold on them still. But was not going to add more till march april.

Question.

Is this bad and if it is should i do anything?
I assume pulling off the candles will likely have as bad effect as letting them grow and die in winter.

2. How often should i get growth on a pine in general?

Usualy for my deciduous trees you will get large growth spring, small amount in summer and depending on tree type a little more in fall for budding to grow on in spring.

Thanks

No it will not. You really need to start studying JBP as your knowledge is lacking and your conclusions are wrong.

Removing the candles will seriously weaken and may even kill your tree.

The buds will not grow much in winter, they are there and must stay there for the next season.

How often should i get growth on a pine in general?

That depends on the species. White pine is single-flush - they will form buds and grow candles only once per year.

Seriously, study this. There are many good sites about white pines. They require different techniques than dual-flush pines like black pines.
