Exactly. Actually, I have learned that my white pines, even while I am not watering them, still are too wet. The result is longer needles with a lighter colour. I 'll actually have to protect them from the rain during the winter.
Februari... can be a dangerous month for me. We have had pretty warm months - and in februari, I will not be watering routinely, like in summer

Yeah, thats european winter in the northwest. We can coubt on daytime temps not going.much over 10c, staying well below it for the next months. Everthing is constantly moist unless frost moves in. Then everything stands still. So all trees that stay outside are cared dor by nature. I am watching them of course. If it does get too dry, i het a wateringcan out. But all deciduous trees are moved to a sheltered spot in the garden, normally they are fine.Clicio wrote: With all due respect, are you saying you do not water any of your trees during six months? Main worry is deep frost, say colder than -10c. Thats when i want to protect azalea and acer palmatums and move them to an unheated shelter.
