Yellowing leaves on chamaecyparis

Hello everybody,
I have a small chamaecyparis which I'm trying to train into a bonsai since two years.
It's been quite ok until last summer, when it suffered from great heat (extremely hot summer here in northern Italy).
Now its leaves are turning yellow on the tips and I can't stop that.
Does anybody have any advice? Can I save it?
Many thanks!

Whilst it may have been hot, this tree does not like wet feet. It appears you have it in a tray of water? if so remove it immediately. Has it been repotted lately?
I would check the roots system and repot if necessary, also fertilise with an organic liquid fertiliser and by the way, more is not better!
Make sure you use a good bonsai mix (not a regular potting mix) which you should be able to find at your local bonsai shop.
Good luck and dont give up!

Thank you for your feedback. Actually I do not keep it in a tray full of water but I had just watered it the night before so the tray was wet but not drowned...
I normally water it into a sink (so water drains completely out) when the soil is dry enough (I check it with a bamboo stick).
The soil is 100% akadama.
I'm just worried from those tips drying and yellowing so suddenly after such a hot summer. I had an automatic watering system during my holiday period so I'm afraid it was not set up properly...

It could be a watering problem from your automatic system that is causing the problem... it does look like there are fresh green tips on some of the branches? are they all yellowing?
have a look at this species guide..

Hello, yes there are still green fresh tips on some branches though most of them are drying - yellowing.
Of course when I came back home (3 weeks) I stopped the automatic system and I restarted watering manually as I've done for 2 years (with a nice thriving tree).
One of the link you gave me says chamaecyparis are thirsty trees...

My experience is that they are...even though I am not that experienced. the intermediate course here offers a lot more species specific info about chamaecyparis and other trees... I don't want to give bonsai empire too much free advertising, but the courses are good.
Unfortunately, it will take a long time to know if the tree is still alive... they tend to stay green long after they are not alive... but if you see new growth that is promising.

I assume the tree is outside and not in? It is difficult to tell from either posts or pictures. I would suggest that the heat may be the cause of the problem and I think it will be with your treatment. There is no point in re potting as a stressed tree will be more stressed. As long as the soil is draining well I think you should leave it, and be very careful with any fertiliser you use whilst the tree appears stressed.

Yes the tree is outside (on a balcony), it was repotted 2 years ago and the akadama is still draining quite well.
I have stopped fertilizing during the hot summer weeks and have not restarted since.

It looks like my chamaecyparis is getting worse daily.
More needles are yellowing and drying.
I am now getting more skeptical on the summer heat and possible lack of proper watering.
Could it be due to spider mites?
