I noticed that the foliage is turning yellowish after repotted from growing box into bonsai pot. Is it normal reaction after a heavy root pruning?

Hopefully, the southern ...
You see, this little tree, just spent all summer long, attempting to store enough life, to make it to spring. And, guess, where it stores it all, in that trunk, sticking out in the winter. NO ... well, some, If you have a big fat trunk, it can store a lot.
The roots store up a bunch, almost ...
oh never mind, that's why we trim them in the Spring, then they have all summer, to get ready for Spring.
All we can do now, is wait for Spring, see what happens, it's a juniper, it will be all right, maybe.

I agree with auk there is something wrong now and root problem is most logical.
You will need to keep an eye on this for a while and nurse it through the winter and hopfully it will wake up in spring but in all honesty the damage is already done.
Good luck with it
