Overwintering advice

Over the summer I rooted three trees from cuttings- two are black willows and one is a dogwood. I have them in big ~12" pots in compost. In at least one of the pots roots have already pervaded most of the area. I live in southeast Pennsylvania. My house is near the top of a hill and I currently keep my trees on a covered porch about 3 feet from the ground. Will this porch be sufficient protection for the trees during the winter, or should I move them into the garage?

Hello from Philadelphia. Research if your tree species are winter hardy in our area (USDA Hardiness Zone). I'm fairly certain the Dogwood is but I'm not sure about the Black Willows. If they are winter hardy they should stay outside for the winter. You want to protect the roots from frost though. We do this by burying the pots of our trees in a raised flower bed. You could also fill large plastic storage bins with dirt for the same effect. You do want to protect the trees from wind in winter but you don't need to wrap them in burlap or anything like they do further north.
