Oh dear! was created by Kiran

Hello,

So, my Chinese Elm is not looking especially healthy at the moment. The leaves are dropping off, the soil has white powder on it, as do some of the remaining leaves - along with the discolouration they are experiencing.

I feel this is unlikely to be due to overwatering (but it could be) since I tend to wait for the soil to pretty much dry out before watering. I did repot the tree into some new soil about 3 months back. It was doing fine at first but more recently is not doing so well and is now in this state - could it be anything to do with that? There were also some tiny, tiny white worm-like insects on it a short while back but they disappeared before I was able to do anything to get rid of them so I left it there.

Is anyone able to help please since I can't identify the problem(s)?

Thank you,
Kiran

Where is the tree located?

Keep it
- Outside
- in a spot that gets a bit of sun every day
- Out of midday sun

Then, water whenever the soil starts to get dry. Do not dunk the pot in water, but justw ater with a watering can with a 'showerhead' attachment.

Do not fiddle with it anymore.

The wite stuff is calcium from hard water. It could be because you are not flushing the soil wth water every time you water. Or your water is very hard. Do you have access to rain water?
