Carmona Fukien Tea ( confirmation, please :) was created by upTree

Hello friends,

I'm new to this forum and new to bonsai in general. I got my first bonsai tree today, but I'm not 100% sure what species he is. From what I've found online, I believe he's a Carmona Fukien Tea tree. However, I've read that those have white spots on the leaves. My tree's leaves are waxy and oval shaped, but do not have white spots.

I have attached several photos and would very much appreciate some help figuring out what type of tree this is, or verifying that it is a Carmona Fukien Tea tree. Also, an estimation of how old the tree might be would be really great!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hm... not sure. What did the shop say it is?

Age... 6-7 years, and I really don't know why that's relevant.

I don't think you have a Fukien Tea Tree. The newer leaves on mine are oval shaped, but as they age they terminal end develops this point-mound-point shape (it's hard to describe). Also, the younger leaves are wider in their aspect ratio than the ones in your photo. Your trunk also looks more smooth than I have come to expect from a Fukien.
From the pictures I would guess Buxus/Boxwood.

Thanks for your help. I'm going to do some research on the Buxus/Boxwood trees and see how they compare my tree, alongside your description of the differences.
