I have had this ficus microcarpa for a year now. I havent done anything to it yet. I just got into the world of bonsai and im trying to figure out what to do about my tree. I know i have to get rid of large leafs. But should i cut branches? What are you guys thoughts of this tree and its opportunities?

This is a twisted house plant. They are sold as bonsai, but really are not.
Not saying you cannot shape this into an acceptable bonsai, but it would require drastic work, removing most of the tree.
Better keep it as it is and prune the overly long shoots - and keep it as a houseplant.
If you really want to get into bonsai, get something else.

Thank you Auk. What would you recommend to start out with? It has to be an inside tree.

A... ficus
I think you would not want to cut this tree to the lowest branch and take the following years to regrow it.
You could try and find a younger, untrained ficus - which will cost you less. You may want to buy a better shaped one. I've seen tiger bark ficuses that actually did not look too bad.
