Hi! I'm new to bonsai and have had my first tree for about a week. It's a Ligustrum sinense (Chinese Privet) that is about 20-30cm tall (not sure, haven't really measured it).
It has a lot of surface roots, especially on top of that "blob" of dirt and roots, that usually get drier than the lower-leveled dirt. And it has overgrown roots coming out of two holes under the pot, which I was thinking about pruning off. However, I don't know if it is safe to do so. The watering method I use it to place the pot about 4cm deep into a tub of water and let it sit until the dirt is damp, and pour some water on the taller surface roots.
Should I cut off the roots under the pot?
Also, I have a branch growing pretty fast and it's still green, when should I prune my tree?

I also seem to have one or two small clovers on the dirt? Do I take them out?

The roots growing out of the pot have no function. You can cut 'm off. Remove any weeds.
