I've seen them lose branches and continue for a while, but its usually the beginning of the end for them. Usually when its widespread dieback like this one its over.

This is not widespread dieback. This is sunburn damage. Whole different ballgame.

And me too, i have had declining juniper with over 90% foliage loss, rebound. But then again, i have only been a biologist for just 20 years.
