I was recently gifted this chines elm a few weeks ago. I have watered it when it requires and not routinely, feeding it with fertiliser "baby bio". It is in a ideal lighting condition in my windowsill with good airflow but not damaging. Why have some of the leaves started yellowing and dropping? "images attached"
This will never be a true 名媛直播 from birth but I want to keep it alive and see if i can create something from it more worthy over time!
Cheers

Hello,

ideal lighting conditions would only be outside.
Put it htere if you have a chance.
Yellowing of some leaves is normal after moving elm on new spot.
Best of luck with caring for it, enjoy :)

Thank you Kristof for you advice, if left in a bright windowsill and grown inside for the rest of its life would it be possible that the plant would acclimatize and adapt to these conditions? I know that Chines elms are rather hardy but am concerned about the UK's sudden temperature drops and wind given how young the plant is.

I took a chinese elm that was grown indoors most of it's life and moved it outside last year... it had some protection in the winter, when it got really cold... but this year it has really thanked me for it with massive growth... I think I have a topic with pictures about it.

I live in Germany, and we also have some sudden temperature changes... but maybe not as extreme as you.

You do not have to worry if you are in UK. It can be ourside until late autumn only move it to a cold room when temperatures drop to about -10°C.
I had mine chinese elm one third of your one?s size outside the whole winter and we had constant freezing temperatures for 3 months in a row it went down to -20 and elm survived.
