Saved a tree. Will it make a bonsai?

I found this tree between a flat stone surface and a large poplar, receiving no sunlight. I have no idea what it is either. It's leaves where floppy, but new and green.
I dug the plant out, trimmed woody roots, trimmed it slightly and planted it in a small tub with 30 small holes drilled in the bottom.
Opinions?

I would put it into a larger pot and try to get it to health before trimming anything from it.
It looks like it has a nice shape to it, though. I'd say it looks natural, but that would be tautologically redundant.

Thank you!
You see, i only trimmed the bits which were withering away, and i trimmed just after a bud.
Why a bigger pot, may i ask?

If you want this to make a bonsai, put it in the ground, lat iet grow for a decade.
You should really focus on a bit more mature plants. Size is everything.

That's why. Don't feel bad, he said pretty much the exact same thing about my twig in a pot... and mine really is a pencil-thin twig with delusions of grandeur.
I think you're moving soon, which would make planting the tree in the ground kind of counterproductive. Thus, bigger pot for it to grow in. Not too big, because then there's standing water in unoccupied soil (and we know how nature is with vacuums), but enough that it has room to grow for the next season or so. I've had good results using earthworm castings and rose fertilisers to replicate natural soil nutrition with potted plants.
