First tree &/or problems? Read this first. was created by Teye01

I have made this topic because there are a lot of stranded beginners on this forum and they all pretty much have the same questions.
Follow the steps. Notice that there is a search function on this forum and most questions you have are already answered. Use it.

1. You bought/got a bonsai at a gardencentre/supermarket or any other non related bonsai place.
You most likely have a mallsai. This means you do not have bonsai. It isn't a bonsai cause they are styled hunderds at a time in Japan/China and there isn't any variation in the plants. These plants will most likely die cause the lack of experience and the bad care. The soil of these plants are very bad. If you want to repot it, make sure you do it when it is the right time and you use the right soil. The right soil is a good airy mix (search the site).

If it has leaves you probably have a carmona, ulmus parvifolia, porticularia or ficus.

Ulmus parvifolia should be outside for the best health (see the care page). It has to have a colder period to thrive, but not too low of a frost. It will most likely die if it stays indoors year-round.
Ficus can't endure frost and has to be kept indoors in the winter. When it is getting warmer you will have to put them outside to have the best results.
With carmona I do not have experience but, from what I've heard, it is around the same as a ficus (can somebody confirm).
If you keep the ficus and carmona inside in the winter, make sure that they get enough light and aren't on a heater/radiator.

If it has needles and looks like the plant on the photo, it is a juniperus. This plant has to be outside all year. If it isn't, it will die.

If it is none of these plants go to the identification page and see if you can find them. If not, search the forum. If you then can't find it, post a topic.

2. If you have any trouble with the plants.
Please search the forum. For example: if the leaves have fallen off search for "<name of plant> losing leaves" and if you have black spots search for "black spots" etc. If you have searched the site very carefully and can't find the answer of your problem, post a topic here but make sure you searched it very well!
Also don't water it in a schedule! Do it when the soil is getting a little drier. Don't over water it but don't let it be too dry as well.

3. If you have bought raw material
You'll probably have some more experience in bonsai otherwise you wouldn't have bought material to create it in a bonsai. I am looking forward to see it!

4. If you can't post a picture..
Make the picture smaller than 1 mb.

I hope people will find this helpful and that there won't be so many the same questions.
If people like to add something, do your thing.

nice initiative, but i think it will not work. the most don't take the time to read this and the old topics. they just wait for a repley, why bother to read the forum. they want a hobby but don't want to put in any effort . maybe it's better if they can't post the first days or week after they register. maybe then they will look things up for themself, but i doubt it.

Yeah you're right but then I have at least tried ;) .
I like the idea that they cannot post the first few days.

Well, we can point new posters to this article - but I think it needs some improvement.
