Recently I was on holidays in Mexico. In the Copper Canyon I came across a broadleaf species with naturaldeadwood. Over hundreds of kilometers I have seen these plants, and nearly all of them displayed deadwood. I this this is the first time I have seen broadleaves with sustained deadwood. I had to share
It is a species of Arctostaphylos (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arctostaphylos), I suspect the Arctostaphylos densiflora. (If anyone knows how to obtain specimens of this species in Europe, please let me know!).

Yes. And when you see them 'live' many of them have a bright red tone once the old bark peels away. I think it would be an excellent candidate for bonsai. If only I lived in Mexico..

There are manzanitas all over California & Oregon, USA as well, and they're beautiful. I've taken many pictures of them while vacationing for the same reasons you did. That said, you might be able to find a broker/exporter in one of the western states who could ship to you, or contact a bonsai club that has those contacts.

Another note about the manzanita (the common name for Arctostaphylos): they're used in aquariums & bird cages. I've had it in one of my aquariums before, and that twisty deadwood can really set off an aquascape.
There are loads of bonsai clubs/societies and nurseries in California, and because of proximity/commerce with Asian ports, you might best be able to find an exporter. A Google search brought up loads of different places, too many to list here.
A few resources that might help you get started on the search:
Google search manzanita bonsai, also. Some good images (a few below). I had a friend bring one to me for bonsai years ago, but it was a pencil - I was rather disappointed.
