Luckily no poaching. I do not know how cold it is and will be where you live but you can wrap it in foil or put straw around and on the pot if it gets below freezing longer than a week. Search for "dionaea winter care" and look for the url "carnivorousplants.org" from international carnivorous plant society. Lots of information there. Also go and search for thecarnivoregirl.com there is a page dedicated to the dormancy of dionaea.
If you're really scared for it to die, you can get the plant out of the pot, put it in a sealable bag and let it be in the fridge for spring to pop up. Then repot it and wait for the next winter and repeat. If you put it in a bag, a little soil is required but not the whole pot and be careful not to let it dry out and watch out for mold. This not the best dormancy you can give (explanation at thecarnivoregirl.com) but if you have no options left, so be it.....
