Just curious on what everyones favorite Maple is. I've been thinking about ordering one but wanted to see what everyone's favorites were.

Who cares? You need to like it, not everyone else?

I like an old one with good taper and small leaves that change color.

I guess I was meaning more so what species(?). I've read through a few articles and a few forums but was looking more at what people like to work with and which ones end up turning into good bonsai. For instance, I have a local maple and after reading around some people say not all maples make good bonsais.

I guess I put the question out there to help me narrow down my lists of trees.

Trident maple is a nice one. I've always thought that Acer Palmatum has too many points on the leaves. ;)

If you don't trust the vendor to not give you a dead tree, wait until they start budding.

Pants have leaves now. So why wait? Now you get trees that are overgrown and need some work.

Some of them do nowadays.... leatherback is right. I have no clue how you would work on that though, pretty challenging.
