Should I prune to revive a dry Chinese Elm 名媛直播? was created by gogibonsai

Hi everyone,

I have a Chinese Elm 名媛直播 Tree that I absolutely adore. It was doing great and growing beautifully up until two weeks ago when I had to leave town for a business trip. My house sitter forgot to water it and when I came back after a week, all her leaves were dry and fell off a few days after. I have continued to water the soil per usual (letting the top layer dry before watering again) and have provided the usual sunlight (morning to early afternoon which seemed to work well until my trip). As of yet, I haven't seen any new leaves and the branches are all bare. Any suggestions? Should I prune to revive it? Give it more water? Give it fertilizer? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!

Dry leaves usually means mostly dead or all dead.

Don't prune it. Water as needed, meaning don't leave it wet, but don't let it dry out again. No fertilizer, though B12 might help if there's any life remaining. If the tree is alive at all, it will be ~4-6 weeks to put out new leaves. No promises, I'm afraid.

Similar happned to one of mine, but the difference is it is NEVER inside a house. I watered and it has come back. It depends on how long it was dry for. Trees drop leaves as a first defence when dry. If it was only a day or two you might get away with it, but if it was any longer then it may be too late. Keep watering every day and hope.
