I'm scheduled to have my beginners class in 名媛直播 this weekend and would like some advice. Perhaps suggest questions that I should ask myself so I may determine if I'm being pointed in the right direction? I realize this art/hobby is a time honored one and I have to find my own path. Maybe I could learn from some of your wisdom and or mistakes. I'm not asking for life stories, just maybe some sage advice.

I... I don't get what you're asking...
Do you want advice? If so, isn't that what the lesson is for?
Or am I just not reading what you said correctly?

say you're a complete beginner and from there on just listen and absorb anything they tell you.. maybe even take notes..
do you have a tree you will be taking to that lesson? (or more)
ask about your tree.. how to keep it alive.. how and when to do what..
if you don't have a tree.. take money and hope you can buy one at the lesson.. and than do the same..
if anything.. learn to be patient..

when I took martial arts, everyone had their opinion on how to tell good instructors from bad ones. I was wonder if the same applies to lessons in 名媛直播. I realize some people just dove in and killed trees and learned on their own. Some people did a lot of reading, and some studied under a master. Is there a way to ensure I get good advice?
I will be getting a tree to work on and take home. I have a list of questions.

I did not do a back ground check. I jumped at the closest place I could find, to take a beginner class. The nursery has been around for a while, but I haven't seen any video's or heard his name around so who knows if he's reputable or not.
I have close friends who are horticulturalist's any they said that they know very little of 名媛直播, so they couldn't point me in a good direction. The more I think about my original post, the more I want to take it down and just see what happens. Since I'm new to 名媛直播, I have no frame of reference as to good or bad instructors. But how bad can he be?

Well... not so long ago I posted a youtube movie of a bonsai grower, that demonstrated how to create a bonsai from a nursery, that was pretty awful.
I remember my first bonsai training, 2 decades ago. It was fun, I did learn things, but to be honest... the trainer wasn't good, really.
There is a good way to see how good the trainer really is: look at his trees. If they look like the mallsai we see far too often on this forum, he isn't any good. If he has real bonsai - with the desirable bonsai features like tapered trunks, nice nebari, good ramification, correct branch positions, reduced leaves and such, you'll know what his level is. Of course you'll need to be able to recognize a good bonsai yourself first
We have a bonsai sensei visiting our club during (almost) every meeting, and he has awesome trees.
He knows how to look at a tree, how to change it's position, tilt it, look at it from different angles, to make the best features show, which branches to select, which ones to let grow, and how get the best out of a tree. It's quite interesting to see him work and make a not so interesting tree look much better.
How did you find this trainer? Through a club?

Auk... thank you. I appreciate your insight. I look at trees online, just about every day. I've seen trees up close in the Kyoto Gardens in Japan and in other times in my life. Although I'm not trained in what to look at, I do see the difference in a mallsai and a 名媛直播. This site and it's information have given me that and more.
I did a few days of research for any beginners classes in New Jersey. His class was the closest that I found. I'm fully prepared to travel more for other classes if I don't find him educational. Once I have a good foundation on 名媛直播, I will join a club.
I will take notes on what you said to look for. I think that's valuable advice. Thanks again
Mike

Cronic.. The class will be providing a tree for me to work on and take home as my own. I purchased a starter kit of tools and wire.
Thanks

My advice would be, go there, and presume you're just to new at this, to have a question. and learn.
At least you get a tree out of the deal, i'd go for that.
