Hi to all
Just bought this tree from tesco , it was sold as "bonsai tree" lol but i bought it because i thought it was a chinese elm and i didnt have one yet . So i go home and look it up and i get a doubt that its not an elm so i look in the species guide and i associate it more to a bird plum could i be right ?

Very difficult to tell what your plant is, could be Chinese Elm. Awful pot and what is that thing stuck in it?

Are there holes in the bottom of that pot? I hope you have it outside in a sheltered spot.

Hahahaha i know its awfull lol i took the picture as soon as i brought it home from tesco . Its actually a vase and the tree is actually in a plastic pot and that thing sticking out is supposed to be a water meter lol
I actually dont have it outside yet as it is very below frost at night here and i didnt know if i should expose it to frost as it has lived indoors all its life i think . Thats why i made this post , what should i do ?

Guess that is just for sales purposes - making watering look more... manageable?
The water meter is useless and actually even dangerous for the health of your plant, if you use it.
It will only indicate something when the pot is filled with water.

Actually the first thing i did was chuck that thing in the bin lol i just took a picture as it came im also going to repot it asap but i want to make sure what species it is first.

After an attent look online i have reached the conclusion that it is not a vhinese elm as the leaves are not pointy but rounded and i am almost sure that it is a bird plum so most of the care guide tell me to grow it indoors but one says it can resist temperatures just below freezing but is better to keep above 10 c .
So should i keep it indoor near a bright window or in an unheated garage with windows ?
Ps : ive not checked the temperature in the garage but i dont think it will go much below freezing

Hello everyone,
I would like to practice some branching since i havent started it on any tree yet so , since this is the fastest growing tree i have, i would like to start on this one.
I have already cut it right back about a month ago leaving only about 20 % of the foliage because all of the branches where either growing upwards,inwards or crossing over.
As you can see in the photo it has grown alot of its foliage back.
I dont really care for the aspect of the tree yet (even tho i love the trunk base) for now im just interested in using this tree to practice my branching.
Ive been reading a few books about it so i get the jist of it but i would love it if someone with more experience would give me some tips.
Im making this post so that i could get some expert help but also to help some other beginers like me that are at this stage

A very daring composition. Experimenting is fine, that's how we learn and how we discover new paths to beauty.
It makes the viewer wonder what the intention of the artist was - a tree that is clamping on for dear life, in the most impossible spot? But also: how does the pot stay there? Did he glue it to the wall or did he use screws?
Challenging concept.

However, for me, it doesn't work. I would prefer the pot at the bottom and the apex at the top.
